Two suspects are in custody after a man was punched in the face and carjacked at knifepoint outside Chrissy Condominiums in Southeast Washington on Thursday, Aug. 13, according to police filings obtained by DC News Now.

The victim told officers he was sitting in his Ford Escape in the 5200 block of F Street SE around 3:45 p.m. when three people approached. The first suspect yanked open the driver's side door and demanded, "Where is the money," then struck the victim in the face, according to the police report.

Two of the suspects took items from the victim's pockets and forced him out of the SUV. All three then drove off in the Ford Escape. The robbery was described in police filings as occurring at knifepoint.

About 95 minutes later, around 5:20 p.m., officers spotted the stolen vehicle turning into the 5000 block of Call Place SE. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested two suspects.

A third person in the vehicle was not arrested.

MPD has not released names or charges. The victim's name has not been made public.

Inside the recovered Ford Escape, officers seized the victim's car keys, jewelry, wallet and a "white rock like substance," according to the police report. The substance has not been publicly identified.

Breaking-news accounts posted on social media on Aug. 13 described at least one suspect as armed with a machete. The police filing describes the robbery as occurring "at knife-point." MPD has not clarified the specific weapon.

The carjacking comes as D.C. has seen sharp declines in vehicle theft overall. Motor vehicle theft dropped 54% from the first half of 2025 to the first half of 2026, according to a Council on Criminal Justice report cited by the U.S. Attorney's Office for D.C. Carjackings nationally fell 43% between 2024 and 2025, with D.C.'s crime rate falling back toward the national average by early 2026, according to the Niskanen Center.
