Yoga practitioners from across the District can roll out their mats at Reservoir Park for free on Saturday, Aug. 29, when FITDC's annual YogaFest returns with instructors and traditions drawn from more than 10 countries.

Comparable yoga festivals in the D.C. area typically charge $40 or more for admission.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Reservoir Park Recreation Center, 10 Lower Service Court NW, near Georgetown. Registration is open now at yogafest26.splashthat.com.

This year's theme is "Yoga Around the World." Organizers say the lineup features teachers and practices from India, Japan, Thailand, Greece, Sri Lanka, Tibet, China, Austria, Germany, Nicaragua and El Salvador, according to a report in El Tiempo Latino. Sessions include energizing flows, restorative yoga, meditation and sound healing.

No experience is required. FITDC, Mayor Muriel Bowser's citywide wellness campaign, describes the event as welcoming all body types, backgrounds and fitness levels. The DC Department of Parks and Recreation runs the event, with sponsorship from Aetna.

The first 60 people to register receive a limited-edition YogaFest T-shirt, though the registration form notes that RSVPing does not guarantee one.

Attendees should bring their own yoga mat, water and a hat or visor. The park has limited street parking and no nearby Metro station; organizers suggest planning a Metrobus route in advance.

Beyond the mat, the festival includes local vendor booths, food and giveaways.
