Kids ages 9 to 15 in Ward 7 can spend four days on the court with law enforcement mentors at no cost starting Monday, Aug. 17.

The 2nd Annual Badges for Basketball Camp runs Aug. 17–20 at the Richard England Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, 4103 Benning Road NE. Sessions run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and lunch and drinks are provided free to every participant.

The DC Police Activities League and Boys & Girls Club co-host the program, which pairs young players with officers for basketball and skill-building over the four-day stretch. DC PAL operates under the D.C. city government and focuses on youth engagement through athletics. The camp launched last summer as an annual program connecting Ward 7 kids with law enforcement mentors on the court rather than on the street.

The D.C. Police Department announced the camp on X on Monday, Aug. 10, calling on "young hoopers" to sign up. The Metropolitan Police Department posted the same details on its official Facebook page the following day. The X post had drawn more than 3,500 impressions by Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The camp's home base, the Richard England Clubhouse 14, sits in the Benning Road corridor of Ward 7 at ZIP code 20019. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, one of the largest affiliates of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, lists the address as its shared services headquarters and operates 18 clubs across the D.C. metro area.

Space is limited. Families can register by scanning the QR code on the event flyer shared in the department's social media posts. No direct registration link has been published.

The camp wraps up Thursday, Aug. 20. No follow-up events have been announced beyond the final day.
