Easy Company, the European-style wine bar at The Wharf, has permanently closed after less than four years in business.
The restaurant called customers on Monday, Oct. 12, to cancel upcoming reservations, PoPville first reported on Wednesday, Oct. 14. One customer told the blog they had a brunch reservation for Saturday, Oct. 17, and "received a call yesterday (Monday) from the restaurant saying they were cancelling my reservation because they were permanently closing the business."
PoPville reported that multiple phone calls to Easy Company went unanswered and that Google listed the restaurant as permanently closed. The wine bar's online reservation system also appeared to be shut down.
No reason has been given.
Easy Company sat at 98 Blair Alley SW, tucked into the Southwest Waterfront development. Better Hospitality Group (BHG), the D.C.-based restaurant company founded by Ryan Seelbach, opened the spot in late January 2023. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant featured a 1,500-square-foot patio that Seelbach called the biggest on The Wharf when it debuted, according to Eater DC. The 49-seat interior aimed to replicate the open-air feel of European piazzas, with wines by the carafe, flatbreads, charcuterie and a daily happy hour.
BHG still operates Boardwalk Bar & Arcade, its neighbor at The Wharf, along with TAKODA Restaurant & Beer Garden locations in Shaw and Navy Yard, according to the company's website. BHG's site still lists four venues, including Easy Company, though the closure would leave three operating locations. Neither BHG nor Seelbach has issued a public statement about why the restaurant shut down.
The Wharf's own listing for Easy Company still showed the restaurant's hours and description as of Wednesday, Oct. 14.
