Dolcezza Gelato is heading back to Georgetown, more than eight years after closing its original shop in the neighborhood where it started.

Founders Robb Duncan and Violeta Edelman plan to open the gelato chain's seventh location at 1300 Wisconsin Ave. NW, in the former Pressed space, the Georgetowner reported Monday, Sept. 7. Duncan and Edelman have said only that the shop will open in late fall or early winter.

The pair opened the first Dolcezza in a 300-square-foot kitchen at Wisconsin Avenue and Q Street NW in July 2004. The original shop closed in May 2018 after Duncan sold the building, telling Eater DC at the time, "It obviously wasn't the place where foot traffic was there." Production had already moved to a factory near Union Market in 2013.

The new Georgetown address is a few blocks from the original.

Ellizabetta La Strega fills Marcel's space

Sommelier and restaurateur Elli Benchimol opens Ellizabetta La Strega on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 2401 Pennsylvania Ave. NW in the West End. Benchimol, a San Francisco native, also owns Georgetown's Apéro and La Bohème on P Street.

The 3,600-square-foot space replaces Marcel's, the French-Belgian fine dining restaurant that closed in May 2024 after 25 years. Ellizabetta La Strega is a two-part concept: the Italian restaurant Ellizabetta and an adjoining cocktail bar called La Strega, the Washingtonian reported. The name translates to "Ellizabetta the Witch."

The restaurant seats 170 inside and 25 on a patio. The menu features pastas such as lemon tagliatelle with caviar and crème fraîche, salads and small plates including tuna crudo with olives and toasted pistachios.

Delhi Belly brings Indian street food to Wisconsin Avenue

Delhi Belly opened in August at 1560 Wisconsin Ave. NW, the same storefront where Dolcezza got its start. Owners Vikas Kakar and Raj Monroy serve Indian street food including samosas, chaats and chatpata dishes.

The address has cycled through several tenants since Dolcezza left, including La Jolie Bleue Bakery & Cafe, Bharati and Oakberry, according to PoPville.

Dolcezza's Georgetown return date has not been announced. Ellizabetta La Strega opens Wednesday, Sept. 9.
