The Metropolitan Police Department has identified the man stabbed to death on West Virginia Avenue NE on Saturday, Oct. 3, as 34-year-old Maurice Justice of Southeast D.C.
Kenneth Brock-Smith, 44, of Northeast D.C., was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder while armed, MPD said in a press release.
Fifth District officers responded to the 1900 block of West Virginia Avenue NE at approximately 4:10 p.m. for a report of a stabbing, according to the department. The call was initially reported as a shooting, but officers determined upon arrival that Justice had been stabbed, WUSA9 reported.
Officers found Justice suffering from stab wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Brock-Smith was located and arrested shortly after officers arrived. He was taken to MPD's Homicide Branch for processing.
The motive remains unknown.
WUSA9 reported it is unclear whether the two men knew each other before the stabbing. As we reported Sunday, Oct. 4, the arrest happened the same day as the stabbing. MPD's Homicide Unit continues to investigate.
