Adams Morgan PorchFest will add a first-ever artisan market to its fall lineup on Saturday, Nov. 7, giving the neighborhood's award-winning music festival a new shopping component alongside more than 100 live acts.
The Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (AMPBID) announced the market and fall lineup on Oct. 8, as first reported by DC News Now. The PorchFest Market will feature vintage items, art, jewelry and local makers in two areas of the neighborhood. The free festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. across 20-plus stages on porches, patios, parks and storefronts throughout Adams Morgan.
Organizers said the market lets attendees support local creators and get a head start on holiday shopping while moving between performances.
The lineup spans seven genres: jazz, funk, hip-hop, R&B, Go-Go, rock and soul. Named acts include D.C. rapper Oddisee, a member of the hip-hop trio Diamond District. FutureBandDC, a Go-Go and funk ensemble led by vocalist James "Poet" Woodert, is also on the bill. Other confirmed performers include Pipkin Creative, Ron Mote's Go-Go truck and Marilyn Huceck.
Washington City Paper named PorchFest the "Best Neighborhood Festival" in its Best of D.C. awards in July. The spring edition on May 2 drew thousands to the neighborhood.
That turnout prompted a shift in enforcement. City Cast DC reported in September that D.C.'s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration and the Metropolitan Police Department plan to enforce open-container laws more strictly at the fall event. Kristen Barden, AMPBID's executive director, told WUSA9 ahead of the festival that the rules are not new and that PorchFest has never had an open-container zone.
The event is free. It is open to all ages and pet-friendly. The nearest Metro stations are Woodley Park-Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights on the Green Line. More information is available at the festival's official page.
AMPBID said it plans to release the full performance schedule before the Nov. 7 event.
