Spicewalla, the Asheville-based small-batch spice brand, will open its second retail location at 1317 Wisconsin Ave. NW in Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 6.
The shop is the latest D.C. venture from founder Meherwan Irani, whom the brand and multiple sources describe as a James Beard Award-winning chef. Irani's Chai Pani restaurant group has been expanding rapidly across the District. His Irani-cafe-inspired restaurant Botiwalla opened at 4000 Wisconsin Ave. NW in Tenleytown on Oct. 14, just two miles north of the new spice shop. His flagship Chai Pani restaurant has been operating in the Union Market area at 1325 5th St. NE since August 2025.
That makes three Irani concepts in D.C. in roughly a year.
The Georgetown store will stock Spicewalla's individual spices, exclusive blends and gift-ready collections, according to a company announcement first reported by PoPville. The shop will also carry collaboration products, including a line with rapper T-Pain, and snacks, condiments and pantry staples from local DMV makers. The specific local brands and T-Pain products have not been announced.
An earlier PoPville report from July said the Georgetown store would stock more than 250 individual spices and over 60 exclusive blends. That report also noted the shop would sit beside fellow Asheville brand East Fork Pottery, though it is unclear whether that arrangement still holds for the opening.
Spicewalla roasts and grinds its spices at a factory in Asheville, North Carolina. Its flagship store sits in Asheville's historic Grove Arcade, and the Georgetown outpost will be the brand's second brick-and-mortar location. The company's announcement described the store as a "sensory experience" for home cooks and chefs.
Botiwalla, which drew lines out the door after its soft opening according to PoPville, features grilled meats, snacks, boozy slushies and retail items including Spicewalla products. Chai Pani in Union Market serves Indian street food and is helmed by executive chef Vishwesh "Vish" Bhatt, a two-time James Beard Award winner.
No opening-day hours or events for the Georgetown Spicewalla have been announced.
