Police identified Ronnie Amarion Massey, 22, of Fairfax, Virginia, as the man shot and killed Sunday, Oct. 18, in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Northwest D.C.
Second District officers responded to the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW at approximately 2:52 a.m. for a reported shooting, according to an MPD news release. They found Massey unconscious and not breathing. A woman at the scene also had gunshot wounds.
D.C. Fire and EMS crews attempted life-saving measures, but Massey was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In an initial statement before the official release, MPD said, "Officers located two adult males and an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds," according to DC News Now. That earlier account and a WUSA9 report described three victims at the scene, including a second man with non-life-threatening injuries. MPD's official release referenced only two victims. The earlier reports also placed the shooting in the 1200 block of Connecticut Avenue, while the official release listed the 1300 block.
Gunfire damaged the window of a nearby Tatte Bakery, which was closed at the time, DC News Now reported. MPD said no other injuries were reported.
WUSA9 reported that police described the Dupont Circle suspect as a man in "dark-colored clothing." No arrests have been announced.
The shooting was one of two in Northwest D.C. overnight. Police responded to a separate shooting in the 900 block of Florida Avenue NW shortly before midnight Saturday, Oct. 17, where two youths and a man were shot, WUSA9 reported. None of those injuries were life-threatening. Police have not said whether the two incidents are connected.
